Alone on the road on a typical female trip

All those who dared to go into the unknown, themselves say that the experience is unique. Katie Mcintosh does it constantly and impressions share on blog

Katie is from Australia, and she likes to say for herself an ordinary girl who loves solo travel. On her blog https://www.thekatieshowblog.com brings experiences solo traveler with different destinations and culture. She says likes to explore new places, try different foods, reveals local skills and most importantly meets people. Unlike many bloggers who advice people to leave everything and go on journey around the world, she says that her mission isn’t to invite girls to leave their jobs and travel worldwide. ” My mission is to promote traveling around the world”, Katie told me when I asked her to tell me what it’s like when you find yourself alone in a strange enviroment, especially in the one where men have the main thing.

What was the motive to go alone to travel?

I was motivated to travel alone simply by not wanting to miss out. I can’t rely on having people to travel with because most of my friends are settling down and have other priorities so they are unable to travel. I didn’t want to miss out so when opportunities started coming up I began to travel on my own. I have always been quite independent and liked doing things on my own so it wasn’t too unusual for me.

When and what was your first destination? How many countries have you visited yet?

My first solo trip was actually when I was 12 years old and I went to New Zealand. I had some family pick me up in New Zealand and I stayed with them, but I got through the airport and customs completely alone as a 12 year old which may have sparked the interest in solo travel. Since then, I have been to about 22 countries, and been a return visitor of many of them.

It’s always interesting to hear people’s stories

What places are ideal for solo female travelers

The most ideal places for solo female travelers are probably the places where it’s accepted or not unusual to see women walking by themselves. France, Iceland, Malta, Norway, Finland, Switzerland were all places that I thought would be great for beginner solo travelers, but once you get started, you will realize that it’s much easier than you think and nowhere will be off limits.

What is your favorite memory that happened during  trip that you’ll never forget?

There have been many things that have happened during my trips that I will never forget, but I love meeting people and all the times where I have been able to interact with local residents and hear their stories about life in the place I am visiting have been great memories for me. Whether it’s in bars in America, thermal pools in Iceland, over dinners in The Maldives or over mint tea in Morocco, it’s always interesting to hear people’s stories.

I would love to see the pyramids in Egypt, wildlife in Botswana, explore south-east Asia and also there is a lot in Japan I would like to see too

Do you find some destinations by travel agencies specialized in female trip?

I have never used any travel agencies, so I don’t know of any. I have always booked and planned my own trips and found destinations through things I want to tick off my bucket list. I get a lot of inspiration through Instagram as well.

Does your partner agree with your decision to travel alone?

Of course. He is very understanding!

What girls shouldn’t forget to bring on solo trip?

Tissues! Public toilets are a little unreliable as far as being stocked with toilet paper, so always have your own tissues. Aside from that, just a lot of common sense to make sure you don’t put yourself in situations where you are at a higher risk.

What places have you visited now and what you plan to see? Where do you  usually stay?

There is still a lot on my bucket list! I would love to see the pyramids in Egypt, wildlife in Botswana, explore south-east Asia and also there is a lot in Japan I would like to see too. I love to stay in boutique hotels or AirBnb’s when I am traveling because I like something a little unique and since I travel so much I like to be comfortable.

Would you like to visit Serbia? Do you think that Belgrade could be interested for solo travelers and what for?

Of course, I think it could be interesting. I have a couple of friends from Serbia and they have told me good things so I would love to visit and explore the sights, museums and food.
